The Bizy Wahm - BizWahm.comThe Bizy Wahm is always in action...even if that 'action" is resting.

Our Bizy Wahm organizational tips are here to help you with time management, organization and more. . Being a good business owner can be accomplished in simple easy steps.  Some only take minutes to do each day.

Keep Your Toys Tidy – Toys? What do toys have to do with staying organized? Well, we’re not talking about the toys your children play with each day. We’re talking about the grown up business “toys” we tend to accumulate over the years. Do you have a label maker, electronic rolodex and a Mickey Mouse phone cluttering y our desk? Try to find a home for each of these items. Maybe the phone can stay on the desk, but the other two have to be put away until you use them. A good rule is, “If it’s not in use, it needs to go home.”. Find that shelf, closet or drawer that is the “home” of those unused items….then take escort those items home.

Organization Starts In The Mind – Have you ever noticed that your place can get the most cluttered when your depressed or feeling down about things? Organization starts in the mind. You can go out and purchase every container, shelving unit, basket and drawer there is, but if you’re not able to get your mind into an organizational mood those items aren’t going to help one bit. Try to think of organization as a plus for doing good work. Think of it as a good thing you do for yourself and your business. It will pay off.

Don’t Forget Yourself…..you’re the only you there is – What does this have to do with being organized? Well, if you’re not feeling rested and refreshed, your organizational tasks might not get done! Do you find yourself working until 3 a.m. every day and don’t even take time to give yourself time to rest and relax? Do you often find that you haven’t done ANYTHING for yourself in the last 30 days? If this describes you then it’s time to take a “Me Break”. A “Me Break” is nothing to be ashamed of. It doesn’t mean that you’re selfish or mean. It just means that you realize that you need time to regroup and give yourself time to relax. So take some time this week to make sure you’re pampering yourself a bit. You’ll enjoy it!

Super-woman does NOT exist – this is more of an emotional organization. It’s important to remember this, even before you start purchasing files and buying new storage boxes. If you think you have to be a super-dee-dooper organizer, never have to ask for help and be able to do your work, cook for the kids, wash some clothes and then go out for the evening, without skipping a beat then think again. We’re human. We need rest. We need food and we NEED organization...but you don’t have to try to do it all in two hours. Take a few days to get your organization work done. You can do it in fifteen minute shifts throughout the day. That can fight the boredom that goes along with straightening up clutter and make the job more palatable.

Don’t Let Piles Form On Your Desk – this is one tip that can nip any disorganization in the bud! Try not to let piles of anything form on your desk. Once you’re done using something, put it back into it’s proper place. If you need to get up to walk to put the items back try to do it as soon as you’re finished. The longer you wait, the less likely you are to move the item back to it’s proper place. If you have debris (used paper, etc…) place it in the trash. If your desk was neat and tidy before you began to work, try to make it neat and tidy after you’re done too.

Try not to be a packrat...get rid of the old stuff – Do you still have bills from 1986? Your old maintenance ticket stub from 1997 for the fax machine you gave away to your niece two years ago? Get rid of old receipts, letters, bills, and other paper that you don’t need any more. It just takes up space that can be used to store other things. Be careful about throwing away papers that you may need for tax purposes since they should be kept for longer periods of time.
